Mogul Socket
would it be safe to run a 250 watt high pressure sodium bulb with just a mogul socket and without a ballast??
we have often used 250 watt heat lamps with mogul sockets and without a ballast and nothing has ever happened. so would there be a difference, and if so what is it.

HID (High Intensity Discharge) Technical Guide
"High Intensity Discharge" (HID) is a broad term used to describe any lighting system using a gaseous discharge arc lamp in which the gas-filled arc tube operates at several times the normal atmospheric pressure, compared to the near vacuum conditions in lamps. The various types of HID lamps are categorized and named by the type of gas contained within the arc tube.
The electrical arc produced between the two main electrodes of a HID lamp is much like a runaway short circuit, which can be sustained indefinitely. Once sufficient voltage is present, the gases within the arc tube are "ionized" to where they will conduct the arc current. Arc formation is not an immediate process. It can take several seconds for the arc to be established and several minutes until full light output is reached.
HID lamps are a negative-impedance device. This means that unless controlled, the current would continue to increase, causing the lamp to fail almost instantly after starting. For this reason, a ballast, which is a current-limiting device, must be used with every HID lamp. The ballast serves three functions. First, it provides the proper starting voltage to establish the arc. Second, it supplies the proper voltage to operate the lamp. Third, the ballast limits the lamp current to a prescribed level.

i ask because can find a mogul socket converter on ebay really cheap. but doesn't have a ballast. ps, i dont know how to connect a ballast to normal wall plug

The external climate brings a different approach to an internal climate system in a greenhouse. The necessity to have a greenhouse may occur during colder seasons where there is limited sunlight. The main purpose of having an internal climate system is to optimize the needed factors for plant growth. The internal climate factor that will be obtained is the photosynthesis process involved in environment and plant reactions.
Photosynthesis is the reaction process between the plants and the sun's solar radiation. This means that carbon dioxide is supplied by sunlight to create a life process for the plants. There is a certain amount of climate heat that is calculated to designate the needed supply for lighting and heating. The greenhouse climate is essential in calculating the needed heat and coldness to the demand of the greenhouse.
The existence of heating and humidifying systems can adjust to the conditions of any external climate changes. Healthy eating if you hate veg?
For whatever reason, most veg I either find disgusting (cauliflower, cabbage, peas, sprouts, mushrooms, broccoli etc), or just bland (carrots, cucumber, etc).
I really WANT to like veg, this is the problem. It's annoying, because I get called fussy - but the thing is, when I try and eat anything in the 'disgusting' category above, my body literally rejects it i.e. I find it very difficult to swallow and it makes me wince. Whenever I've tried to sit and eat with someone else, its embarrassing if I'm either wincing or spitting it back out!
I'm not suggesting I'm allergic to the above AT ALL, I just find eating it a very unpleasant experience and wish it wasn't.
I was wondering if there is a way I may 'train' myself to like this food more? Or is it entirely based on taste buds which change of their own accord? Is it psychological?
If not, can I find the nutrients I need in other foods? I love fruit and eat plenty of apples, bananas and satsumas a day.
try putting chopped mushrooms, courgettes, onions, peppers and tomatoes in a lasagna or spaghetti bolognese or sumthing else you might like, makes them so much more bearable!! I used to hate all vegetables but ive found that if you put them in saucy meaty meals then you can eat them no problem, you cant even taste them really!! good luck

Plant food?
I have just bought a Bougainvillea - the advice on the BBC gardening website is to 'provide a high nitrogen feed when it comes into growth, followed by a high potash feed when the buds appear'. Can you tell me what is a high nitrogen feed and what is a high potash feed please - for example, can you give me any brand names or types of fertiliser that provide these nutrients please?
firstly to explain plant food. on the packets of fertiliser you will find the letters n p k.these indicate n for nitrogen. p for phosphoric acid and k for potisium.the letter k is the greek word for potasium and is used to stop any confusion by using two letter p.
nitrogen promotets the leaf growth.
phosphoric acid promotes strong root growth.
potasium promotes the strenght of the plant and colour plus fruit ropening.
a good sourse of nitrogen is nitro-chalk as a chemical fertiliser or dried blood an organic form.
potasium is usualy found as sulphate of potash.
