Bird Paradise

How long does it take a Bird of Paradise to grow a flower when grown from a seed?
The plant itself has grown, but it still has no flowers. I read on another site it can take 7-10 years before a flower will grow! Is this true? Thanks for your help!
(We started with seeds, not a seedling or mature plant.)
They usually hit maturity at about 7-10 years under ideal conditions and also have about 10 leaves on each plant. I have 6 reginae and 4 nicolai that are 7 years and 6 years. I am hoping the white ones bloom this year. They have enough leaves on them. The reginae bloomed for the past two years with the first year only a couple of blossoms. It should take off real good this year. Only Mother nature could have made such a beautiful and exotic flower to mimic a bird in flight.
