Some of the gardening instructions are so maddening! They tell you everything except what you need to know. Maybe this will help, think about tulips. They need light to grow, and it is wonderful to have them in the spring, but if you put them where the sun, especially the hard-charging afternoon sun is going to blast them, your tulip flowers might only last a day. They would just get pounded by the direct spring sun. Bright light but no direct sun tells me you need to plant them where they can get the morning sun, which is gentler, and hasn't built up the heat around your flowers. Hope this helps.
