Do I have to peel tiny carrots if I want to make soup stock out of them?

Garden had a bumper crop of baby carrots, I do NOT want to have to peel them all, many are too small to make that worthwhile. Ideas on how to efficiently and effectively clean lots of small carrots would also be appreciated.

Just give them a good washing and throw them in the stock pot. That should take care of any soil stuck to them, and if you used any fertilizer or pesticides, a good washing and rinsing will take care of that too.

Bon Appetit!

I have a bumper crop of hazel and other nuts on my trees?

this year ,I usually leave them for the wild life but this year there is enough to be gathered and enough to leave for the creatures who eat them, but I'm not sure when is the right time to gather them, can anyone tell me please ,if I wait for them to go brown they will drop ,and it will make harvesting very difficult ,X

periodically crack one to see if it's ripe and tastes good. lucky you.

  1. Bumper crops of acorns also means lots more crazy squirrel activity. They go goofy trying to get all the extra acorns & often find themselves dodging traffic. I miss the Burr Oaks that surrounded the house I grew up in, but I don't miss the pain of walking around barefoot under them in the fall. Acorns hurt!

** Yes, they do hurt! I'm picturing the squirrels with cheeks full of acorns. Oblivious to what's going on around them. I once sat on my front porch and watched a squirrel try to cross the road. He darted and dodged, caused a few vehicles to slam on brakes, and lost some of his acorns in the process. He never did cross. I think he got confused on which way he was going. It was probably a male squirrel who didn't want to ask for directions!!
