Conductivity Tester
How could we tell if a compound consisted of ions if it does not dissolve in water?
I did a lab in chemistry about compounds and if they contain ions. We dissolved them in water then placed a conductivity tester inside the water to see if it had ions. Please answer this question on my lab report.
Never mind I already did it I couldn't wait that long
Was your answer to measure its melting point, then determine if there was a potential difference across a pair of electrodes?

Does the amount of water in a conducting solution affect ion movement?
Well, today we dissolved various compounds in water and used "conductivity testers to determine which compounds contain ions." Then, we put more water into the cups and tested them again. Because the volume of the water increased but the amount of the solute (eg the salt) remained the same, were the ions further dispersed throughout the solution? Was the movement of the ions (which enables them to conduct a current) affected?
I thought yes, to both questions, and that the movement was reduced so the current conducted was less...I've confused myself horribly though, now...help, please?
first. yes, the ion density is lower because only water was added.
second. movement was affected because the mean distance between ions is increased, so the current is decreased.
