Taylor Digital Wired indoor/outdoor Thermometer, problem with outdoor reading,?

It is showing HH.H for outdoor reading, min is 158.0 F and Max is HH.H i reset and comes back it seems to be frozen. i try and switch between F and C and it doesn't do it, only when i reset will it show the different measure of temp. don't know whats wrong. could it be the wire? it worked fine the other day. i put it through a window so its kind of crimped but that shouln't matter i don't think. will it stop working if theres a slight opening in the insulation in the wire? or is it the probe? it just seems to be measureing above 158 or something but its not hot out. its about 30's F out. hope to fix it. i thought the wire may have come out of where it is connected inside. so i try to open it but cant get it. theres 2 screws but still stuck. please help :) thanks
Its just a wired thermometer, no outdoor device, besides wire.

Some thermometers need to have the batteries inserted in the outside unit first, then the inside unit. Try that. With the screws out you should be able to gently pry the case open. Check the instructions again. Check the batteries with a tester or put in new batteries. If that fails, you may have damaged the wires. You should be able to splice them.

Does a dog's temperature go down and then slightly up again before she goes into labor?

We took her temperature with a digital thermometer on Saturday morning and it was 99.8. Saturday night it was 99.2. Sunday morning it was 97.4. Sunday night it was 98.4. This morning 99.2. This is confusing me a lot since I thought she was going to go into labor. She is increasingly lazy and her puppies are going crazy wiggling inside of her and rolling around. She still has not "looked for a place to nest" and we haven't seen milk yet. We have no clue how long she's been pregnant. We got her four weeks ago because I wanted a dog and my husband was going to Iraq and we had no clue she was pregnant until last week when we went to the vet with her. The vet couldn't tell us how far along she was or anything. So this is a major waiting game for us. She's about a year and a half old, german shepard/husky mix. We've seen the puppies moving around in her stomach and felt them rolling and kicking for over a week now. She's never outside without a leash or out without us.

You should see a huge increase right before the decrease. They say if her temp drops to 98.4 or below that it a sign that labor will start within 24 hours. If your dog goes beyond 24 hours it wouldn't hurt to ring up your vet for some phone advice.
