Flange Lens Can I use an adaptor ring for my M39 camera to fit M42 lens?
I have a camera with M39 lens mount and the lens I have is M42. Would it affect the photo if I mount this lens using an adaptor ring? I heard that it could affect the photo/focus (whatever) due to flange bases distance or something of the sort.
My camera is a Zenit E with M39 mount, and a Helios 44 lens with M42 mount. (I got it off ebay and the camera body was supposed to be M42 mount but whatever, I can't be bothered to return for the correct item.)
I'd appreciate some help or advice! Thank you:)
The distance of the mount of the lens to the frame of film is different with M39 and M42. There are adaptors that will allow M42 lenses to fit M39 bodies but the design will push away the lens farther to the film making focusing to infinity inaccurate. You can still focus the lens but it will not coincide with the distance markings on the lens itself and it will not focus to infinity. If distance is a big issue, you can go back to eBay and either buy an M39 lens or an M42 body. Both are relatively cheap anyway nowadays especially the Russian brands.
