Two Questions!?

A benefit of hydroponics is that it
*creates insect-resistant crops.
*saves money.
*enables crops to grow in areas with poor soil.
*reduces the use of fertilizer.

Germination will not happen unless a seed
*absorbs water.
*uses its stored food.
*is dispersed far from the plant that produced it.
*grows stamens and a pistil.

Seeds absorb water in pre-germination stage. Seeds need both air and water to have a good germination rate. As seeds receive less water their germination rate goes down.

Hydroponics allows crop to be grown anywhere irregardless of the soil qualities.
While it does not eliminate the fertilizer use it uses no more than is needed with the ability to filter and reuse the nutrient solutions for potted plants. There should be no run off loss into the surrounding environment. It is a more efficient use of nutrients as compared to farming. There are several ways to grow hydroponically depending on the specific plant's requirements so high value small crops can be grown.

Getting into Hydroponics a good hobby? questions about it?

Well I am only 15, and I like to build and do stuff, and i saw a link to how to get into hydroponics, and it seems cool.

Is this a good hobby?

I want to do it in my room, so i can grow chili peppers, or some other cool edible plant.

there is a hydroponics store close by, but i am just unsure how i would start my new hobby?

any tips and sites or anything?

Is it alright to do hydroponics in my room?

i do not think my mom would let me do it anywhere else.

how expensive is it to get into?

any tips on it would be great.

and also some good edible things i can use with hydroponics would be great too?

Thanks.

I believe that this is a great hobby to get into. I am not sure how well your system will do in your room unless you have adequet light, other than light though, I do not see any other reason other than if your not carefull it can get messy. As for the price that is always the problem you are going to atleast need a submersable pump which tend to be expensive and then some nutrient solution. Other than that it depends on what kind of system you want to build and how fancy you would like it to be. Some cool things to grow in your room would probably be just herbs. Other plants can get to big and be to much of a hassel. Another cool thing about herbs though is that they do not require a lot of nutrients so that would be less cash on your end to spend. My suggestion for a kid your age (My age also I'm 16) is to grow stevia. It is a really cool herb. If I were you I would research it, I am growing it right now and love it. Currently I am taking a class that has all kinds of hydroponic material in it so if you would like any other tips or have any questions just contanct me here is my email, Wilkeyjosh326@yahoo.com
