Jump Start Pellets My betta is trying to commit suicide...i am not even kidding.?
Okay. So I have a 3 gallon tank with a betta fish in it. He loves to eat and stuff, so I give him a few pellets every morning and night except for Sunday [fasting day for him]. He's normally very happy, but since my little 2 inch pleco died this morning, Ferb (the betta fish) has been acting really weird.
There is a tube in the middle, and there's another (smaller) tube to go down it and blow up bubbles. At the top of the bigger tube, there's something to separate the bubbles out, and it's just a little under the water.
Ferb started jumping onto it and would just lay there. So I got scared and lifted the top so he'd jump off. He did this three times before I scooted it up so he couldn't jump onto it anymore.
He won't eat right like normal, and he will lay down at the bottom of the tank, then randomly fly to the top, dart in a circle or something, then go back to the bottom underneath a plant..
Not sure what I should do?
that tank is MUCH too small for a pleco. it's big enough for just a betta. right now you have an under gravel filter, personally I'm not a huge fan of them, so I'd spend the $6 and get him a sponge filter instead (you already have everything except the sponge for it).
I'm going to guess the pleco died because of poor water conditions... are you doing water changes, if so how much and how often? I'd suggest a 50% water change and see if he improves. also make sure the tank is heated.
I got a 10 gallon fish tank, bought gerbil wood shavings, food bowl, wooden chips to chew on, exercise wheel, and a "litter" box with gerbil-safe litter pellets. Also I got him one of those plastic houses to hide him. I set his cage/tank up and have basically left him alone because I heard you should not bother them until they get acclimated. At first he was running around on the wheel and almost frantically jumping up on all sides of the glass. Now he's gone into his little house and gone to sleep. Still very skittish. I have not tried to pet him. I had a lab rat at school that never bit me and was very affectionate, but I haven't a clue about gerbils. He's really cute! I just don't want to start off on the wrong foot with him and scare him
So far so good. He will need a friend though because they get lonesome pretty fast, they are social animals. I answered a question concerning that, you may want to check it out on my profile. Have you started feeding him with your hand in the tank yet? He will become used to your hand and know that you mean no harm that way. And the first time you hold him, be warned they can suddenly jump, so until you know more about him and how he reacts It's a good idea to hold him while being close to the ground or while sitting on the couch, so If he does suddenly jump he wont get hurt. I hope you enjoy your new buddy. They are such cute and entertaining creatures.
