How to set up and start my salt water aquarium?
Ok today i just bought all new supplies for my fish tank to turn it into salt water. I cleaned it yesterdasy and moved all the fish to differnet tanks. And drained it and now it is sitting empy!
Here is a list of what i bought:
-Marineland 200gph bio-wheel filter
-30 pounds of aragonite live sand
-48 pounds of Instant ocean salt
-Hydrometer
-140 watt heater
-Life-glo light bulbs
-chunk of life rock
now i am setting this up in my 29 gallon fish tank. Now would someone please tell me how to set this thing up from step one?? i get the filling part but some people say fill the fish tank and mix the salt in the tank, and others say mix it in buckets then dump it in the tank. Then also when the salt content is right can you put the sand in right away or should you wait?? and when you put the sand in you should shut your filters off??
FIRST TIME TRYING A SALT WATER TANK (you may know that already lol)
Its not ideal to be mixing the salt the same day as adding live rock and live sand but it will be ok
Fill the tank with water, get the salt in there and get the heater in and also you'll need some sort of powerhead or pump to mix the salt so it dissolves. If you dont have one, you'll need to mix it by hand so the salt dissolves faster. Once its dissolved check with your hydrometer that the salinity is at whatever level your aimiing at. Mine is at 1.025SG. Set up your lights and biowheel filter while you get that salt dissolved.
Next add the live rock as you'll want that sitting on the base of the tank and not on the sand bed as you may have a rock fall and smash the tank if you put it on the sand. Lastly add the sand. Good luck with the tank
