Would anyone please explain to me some parts and the ending of the movie "Prestige"?
I have watched this movie tonight. I liked it but found it a little confusing. I have some questions: after Hugh's character finished reading Bale's diary, what did he realize (i know it was something about Olivia)?
At the end, I understood that Hugh's character made clones and that he killed all of them. What about his rival: did he had a brother?
What did the old man mean when he told something about agony?
Whose character do you think is better? Personally, at first I liked Hugh's character because he lost his wife. But at the end, Hugh's character did not seem as good of a person as the other one because he went too far for a better prestige; whereas; Bale only had a twin brother. Please, share your thoughts.

Why did Bale send him to Tesla?
The movie came out on October 20th, and I watched it in a movie theater.
First of all, LOVED this movie. So many twists. Secondly I loved both The Prestige and The Illusionist, but have to say that I prefered The Illusionist.
Ok - as for your questions: I am confused about what you are asking about the diary. I know that Hugh's character realized that Bale did not give him the answer that he was searching for. It was only the keyword to the diary's code - not to what the trick was.
Christian Bale's character was actually characterS - He was a twin - that's how he did the transporting man trick - it was him that went in one door and his twin that came out of the other door.
The "old man" had told Hugh's character that drowning was like "going home." At the end he said that he lied. That it was true agony.
As far as the characters, they both had their "evil points." "The Professor" was a twin who shared his life with his brother. He shared his WIFE and his MISTRESS with his twin brother. That's just sick. Hence the reason why when the wife asked him "Do you love me?" and he said "Not today" that meant that it was the twin brother that was in love with the mistress. The wife said that she couldn't handle living that way anymore meant that she couldn't be married to two men anymore.
The Great Donton (sp?) (Hugh's character) was evil in the fact that night after night he killed his clone. A living breathing human, he killed every night just to have a great Prestige. He was also doing it to frame The Professor. He KNEW that one night The Professor would be there and he could frame him for his murder. He wanted the child because he would never have a child with his wife since The Professor *killed* his wife. So they both had their evil sides.
Bale's character sent Hugh's character back to his home country to get him away from him.
