Sphagnum Peat Lowering Fish Ph with sphagnum moss?
i have heard to use peat moss to lower ph but is spagnum moss the same substance?
10 points for best answer
i am going to put it in my fish filter
Yes as peat moss is sphagnum moss only its grown in peat which is acidic and that leechs out into the water to lower the Ph, you should really never place this stuff directly in the tank and it should be placed in the filter making sure you do daily checks on the Ph.
Plants don't reduce Ph as they use the stock of CO2 during light periods which is what will lower the Ph in a tank however, during dark periods they breath oxygen and exhale CO2 which is why full on planted tanks have very few fish in them.
