Seed Kit Indoor

When is the best time to start seedlings indoor for annuals?
I do have one in mind but if you can you recommend a tried and true seed starter kit and where I may purchase it(online), I'd appreciate the
it.
4 - 6 weeks before the last frost is a good time to start your seeds. Check your local almanac to find out when the last frost date is.
Seed starter kits are a bit of a waste of time, I feel. I always buy pots or use old pots (carefully washed), a tray to catch water and some seed-starting potting soil. Make sure you have plenty of light -- that is the main thing.

Clone From Cuttings

How do trees age and die?
The American Elm cannot naturally, successfully reproduce. There are a few "original" Elms that display a natural resistance to Dutch Elm Disease (cite: http://www.americanelm.com/elm_history.html) and -- for now -- a virtually unlimited supply of descendants from cuttings are available. Seeds from these trees do not generally display the same resistance to DED.
So here's the question: with animal cells, one of the big (ethical and physical) problems with cloning is something called telomeres (cite: http://www.bioethics.net/journal/j_articles.php?aid=104 -- caveat: if you need to read the cite, you're not going to be able to answer my question). So, since cuttings are similar to cloning in that the descendant does not start from a seed/zygote/whatever, will there come a point in the not too distant future where said cuttings will no longer produce viable offspring?
First cite is broken. Correct version is here:
http://www.americanelm.com/elm_history.html
One of the important genetic differences between plants and animals is that while animal cloning doesn't exist outside of a lab, plants frequently clone themselves naturally. Examples of plants that naturally reproduce by asexual means are numerous, from strawberry runners to aspen clonal roots sytems to layering in conifer forests. Additionally, cloning of plants by taking cuttings has gone on since ancient times as a basic means of plant propagation. Thousands of examples of plants propagated through cuttings exist in agriculture and horticulture. We wouldn't have commerical potatoes, tulips, or thousands of other plant species if asexual propagation had not been used.
Plants develop along a much different pathway than humans. Plants do not have a typical germline and they produce new organs throughout their lives. Further, plants have fundenmentally different repair protiens associated with the telomeres.
The larger risk using a small number of phenotypes of resistant Ulmus americana and Ophiostoma ulmi is that eventually the pathogen will evolve around the resistance. A system that involves only a few host phenotypes and thousands of pathogen phenotypes is a recipe for disaster.
