im growing some bag seed marijuana and its going to be a small plant any cheap lighting ideas? like leds or?
something i can buy for cheap at walmart, i really just need lighting ideas. for a grow box, just not something high matience and cheap, ive heard of people using led Christmas lights that were poked through a plastic tub top and on the bottom it looks like light bright! would that work? like a stran of 150 xmas lights?

Rick is the only one not trying to sell something! Other alternatives to used: In order of personal preference other than MH for veg -Shop light (40w soft white), grow light strip lights, some High watt CFL's (this one varies in opinion).

Minimum Heat: LED grow lights produce less heat and this is the reason that they allow you to put the light closer to your plants without burning them. LED lights also come with modest built-in fans to keep the chips cool and thus ensure a good plant growth.
No Expensive Accessories: Although they initially cost you more than any comparable Sodium bulb, the real costs are often lower because you don't need to buy expensive accessories like - ballasts, reflectors, heat removal systems, and fans to use them.
With an average lifespan of approximately 100,000 hours, a typical LED grow light continues to pay for itself over time, 10 to 50 times longer than a normal Sodium/HID grow light bulb. Last but not the least, plants can use the light created by LED grow lights directly for photosynthesis and thus ensure the growth at its fullest potential.

why do only 2 lights work in my flourescent fixture?
I have a 4 bulb fluorescent fixture that I changed the transformer in and only 2 of my bulbs work
Nope- tried that. Switched them all around and no matter where I put them, only 1 on each side will work.
It is grounded good.
The bulbs and the ballast have to be matched and the ballast will have the information about how may of what type of bulb it takes. With the newer electronic ballasts, one ballast will indeed light all four bulbs, -- OR -- it may be just a two tube ballast. Another possibility is that the wiring to the lamp sockets is either incorrect or the connections in the two that don't work aren't connected or have come loose. The ballast will also have a complete wiring diagram on it so just follow the diagram and check the connections in each tube's socket. Give a little tug on the wires to make sure they are actually being held in place.

Installing a fluorescent light fixture to replace an incandescent bulb...?
Do I need to turn the power off at the circuit box, or can I just turn the light switch off. Problem is... I have to get a key off of someone to get to the circuit box. This is paid work, but there are always logistic issues. At this point the fixture is in place, the buildings wires need to be connected to the fluorescent fixture (they are still connected to the incandescent bulb). Thank you for your answers.

The safest and most correct response is to turn off the circuit breaker. That being said, you can do it by turning off the switch, but it isn't recommended. If you have a meter you can turn off the switch and check the wires for power if there are more in the box than JUST those from the switch. I would do it myself, but I NEVER advise others to do it. I do not know your knowledge base, so I don't want to get you killed. Now if you are good at reading between the lines, you will know what to do. {wink}
