Tristar Jack LaLanne Deluxe Juice Machine Reviews
Along with powerful juice extracting capability, this machine offers a raised platform to accommodate measuring cups and large glasses, and an overflow platform to catch excess juice. It is easily disassembled for cleaning, and component parts are dishwasher safe. Along with the fruit itself, some seeds, stems, and rinds can be processed in this machine for full nutritional benefit. Unlike many juice machines, this one doesn't leave lots of pulp, instead its patented extraction technology delivers more juice. As long as the fruit or vegetable will fit into the extra large feed tube, and doesn't contain a hard pit or undesirable portions, there is no need to precut. The recipe books will tempt you with selections such as Tropical Bliss Sorbet, Orange Macadamia Muffins, and Carrot Ginger Soup.

"Great Machine"

All things can be improved and I'm sure this machine is no exception. However, we have settled into a happy routine of fresh juice every morning for over a month now and are very satisfied with the way this machine functions. I bought this juicer second-hand without instruction booklet. I am not too bright at working out such things (my coffee maker experience springs immediately to mind) but I managed after a bit of trial and error and common sense to work it out and it is great. I have never had fruit flying out of it or stained counters etc. To be fair, beets and carrots will always go out of their way to stain your things whether you juice them or not. If you think you might struggle to work out what the base and cup holder is for and leave the pusher out, you may be safer buying your juice or hiring staff. I also hate the cleaning bit, but then again, I don't like cleaning my house either - necessary side effect. Once you have a regular routine of use and cleaning it is a very simple and happy experience.

Why would a plant grow from a seed only to push it (the seed) out of the soil?
The seed I planted is at the top of the plant sprout. Anyone with a good explanation of this?
Actually, the seed is a plant embryo. Upon germination the part of the seed you recognize are the large cotyledons (the structure in the embryo of a seed plant that may form a ‘leaf’ after germination and is commonly known as a seed leaf). However, the elongation of the axis (embryonic stem and root) results in the 'growth' in the early stages of germination. Thus, everything you see in the first days are part of the seed, but all are increasing in size mostly from taking in water and resulting in the elongation of the cells already present in the seed. It is the cotyledons that are simply the most visible part in the dry seed but of course the axis (sometimes people call this the 'germ', as in wheatgerm) was there all the time.

anyone here take part in seed/plant swapping?
i'm just getting back in to gardening after a long time away from it.
i joined some seed/plant swap sites on yahoo (groups) and davesgarden and gardenweb.
anyone out there swap plants or seeds locally or via groups/forums online?
so plants and seeds don't go to waste, they are rehomed to someone who will use them and so you don't have to pay retail for plants, veggies etc. - why else?
You know ,I wanted to start a seed co op to do exactly what you are saying. But I have to say that my thinking was along the lines of doing away with genetic engineering of food seeds by the government. Money is not any part of my thinking.

Why are there no large moss plants?
And what advantages does a seed have over a spore?
How is water important to the reproduction of mosses and ferns? I've been looking through my science book for 2 hours and cannot find the answer. Thanks in advance!

Mosses have no vascular system to transport water and metabolites around, so they rely on diffusion - which only works for small distances. So they are limited in size.

Seeds contain their own energy-store; spores need an available external energy source before they can germinate.

The gametophyte stage of the life-cycle of mosses and ferns depends on water to transport sperm to eggs.
